It was late at night when I woke. Not yet morning. Nightmares had filled my sleep again. Rabbits hanging from the trees, swaying in the wind and each time one moved I caught a glimpse of Alex behind it kissing Saffron. Daisy. Dannii who should have gone home by now, but had chosen to stay on without her friends. But never, ever, kissing me.

I rolled over.

The moon was bright and white, shining on Mum’s empty bed. At least if she was still with Alex, Dannii couldn’t be.

And that had to be better, didn’t it?

Alex with Danni.

Alex with Mum.

I didn’t know which was worse.
